How to Choose a Gas Pressure Reducing Valve: 4 Parameters to Check
2026-10-20 · LAIFU Gas Valve
A pressure reducing valve is a key component for stable gas supply to gas appliances and outdoor gas equipment. It reduces the high pressure from a cylinder or pipeline to the stable low pressure required by the burner. Choosing the wrong valve can lead to unstable flame or even safety risks. Before purchasing, check these 4 parameters:
1. Inlet Pressure Range
The inlet pressure range is the maximum inlet pressure the valve can withstand and must cover the actual supply pressure of the cylinder or pipeline. For example, the pressure inside an LPG cylinder differs greatly from natural gas pipeline pressure, so the inlet range must match your gas source.
2. Outlet Pressure Range
The outlet pressure determines the gas supply pressure to the appliance. Too high can cause incomplete combustion and excessive flame; too low results in weak flame. Match the rated supply pressure of your appliance.
3. Rated Flow Rate
The valve must deliver the rated flow required by the appliance. If the valve flow is lower than the appliance demand, gas supply will be insufficient. For high-power appliances (multi-burner stoves, large burners), choose a higher flow valve.
4. Sealing Performance & Connection Size
Sealing performance is directly related to gas safety. Pay attention to the sealing structure and factory testing. The connection size (thread, fitting type) must match the cylinder valve, pipeline or appliance connection to avoid modification risks.

Plug Valve vs Ball Valve: Which One for Gas Pipelines?
2026-10-12 · LAIFU Gas Valve
Plug valves and ball valves are both common shut-off valves in gas pipelines. They may look similar in operation - a quarter turn opens or closes - but they differ in structure and suitable applications.
Structural Differences
A plug valve uses a tapered plug with a passage; rotating the plug 90° connects or shuts off the pipeline through the tapered sealing surface. A ball valve uses a ball with a through-hole; rotating the ball opens or closes the flow path.
Performance Differences
- Plug valve: simple structure, fewer parts, quick open/close, easy maintenance - suitable for frequent operation.
- Ball valve: straight-through flow path, low flow resistance, high flow capacity, good sealing - suitable for applications requiring high flow and sealing.
How to Choose
For daily on/off control of gas appliances where simple and reliable structure matters, plug valves are a common choice. If the pipeline needs low flow resistance and high flow, ball valves are more suitable. Always consider working pressure and media characteristics; consult a professional manufacturer for selection.
LAIFU plug valve series uses a proven tapered sealing structure with flexible operation and reliable sealing. See our plug valve series.
How Thermocouple Flame Failure Protection Works
2026-10-05 · LAIFU Gas Valve
On gas cookers, water heaters and other burning appliances, thermocouple flame failure protection is an important safety line. It automatically cuts off the gas supply when the flame goes out accidentally, preventing the risk of gas leakage.
How It Works
A thermocouple is made of two different metal materials. When heated by the flame, it generates a small electromotive force (thermal EMF). This EMF acts on the solenoid valve, keeping it open so gas continues to flow.
When the flame goes out unexpectedly (due to wind, spilled liquid, etc.), the thermocouple cools rapidly, the EMF disappears, and the solenoid valve loses its holding force and closes automatically, cutting off the gas path. This happens without manual intervention, usually within seconds to tens of seconds.
Why It Cannot Be Omitted
Flame failure protection is an essential safety function required by gas appliance standards. Without it, gas would keep leaking into the environment after an accidental flame-out, creating a serious risk of explosion when exposed to an open flame or spark. Always choose appliances and valves with reliable thermocouple flame failure protection.

Medium Pressure vs Low Pressure Gas Valves: What's the Difference?
2026-09-28 · LAIFU Gas Valve
Gas systems are classified by supply pressure into high, medium and low pressure levels, and each level requires valves with different designs and applications. The main differences between medium pressure and low pressure gas valves are:
Different Pressure Ratings
Low pressure gas valves are mainly used for end-use appliance gas control with relatively low working pressure. Medium pressure gas valves are used in medium pressure gas supply systems with higher pressure ratings, requiring stronger body strength and sealing structures.
Different Applications
Low pressure valves are common in household gas cookers, water heaters and outdoor stoves. Medium pressure valves are used in medium pressure pipelines and commercial gas equipment that require higher pressure transmission.
Selection Notes
Always confirm the system supply pressure level before selecting a valve, then match the appropriate valve product. A mismatch in pressure rating not only affects control performance but may also create safety risks. We recommend consulting a professional manufacturer for selection.
LAIFU provides a medium pressure gas valve series for medium pressure gas supply systems. See our medium pressure gas valve series.
